Where We Stayed:
We got an Airbnb in the Upper West Side that was a block from Central Park and had a spectacular view. On our past trips we’ve stayed in the Upper East Side, so this time we decided to check out a different neighborhood and we loved it! This was my first time staying in an Airbnb so I was a little skeptical, but we had a very positive experience. We opted to rent an entire place, as opposed to renting a room (i.e. there might be other people there), I would go the route of renting an entire place if you’re considering it. Definitely check the reviews on the host/spot first too!
Where We Ate:
For breakfast we ate at Jacob’s Pickle….twice….it was that good! We grabbed coffee at Magnolia Bakery one morning too, I couldn’t eat anything there although I hear that the bread pudding is delicious. It was super cute on the inside and the name along was reason to stop! We also stopped at Bagel Talk, on the UWS, to try their gluten free bagel and it was the best GF bagel I’ve ever had. I got a GF everything bagel with chive cream cheese, needless to say I will be back! For lunch we ate at Tipsy Parson which I highly recommend! The menu is small, but the food was delicious (I got “The Farmstand” – came with GF bread)! The atmosphere is perfectly quaint too! I found out about this fun little spot from Krista’s post about it! We walked through Chelsea Market right after we ate at the Tipsy Parson, but I wish we had been hungry because there are so many options there! We got dinner at Serafina one night (delicious gluten free pasta!), another night we ate a late dinner with friends at the tiniest hole in the wall Mexican restaurant that I cannot think of the name of. The food was not great so you certainly aren’t missing out!
We also stopped at Doughnut Plant, Zachary’s absolute favorite doughnuts ever, and we stopped also stopped at Wafels & Dinges in Bryant Park so that Z could taste them. He says they were amazing, so for my gluten eating readers you should definitely add these stops to your list for a sweet treat!
What We Did:
Walked through Central Park
Times Square
Bryant Park
The High Line
Chelsea Market
Shopping in the West Village (specifically went for the Tory Burch store)
Shopping on Broadway in UWS (Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters, LOFT…)
On past trips we’ve gone to the Museum of Natural History, which is a personal favorite! We’ve also gone to Rockefeller Center, Grand Central, Chinatown, One World Trade Center, Battery Park, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral on past trips and loved those! This was a quick trip for our five year anniversary so we couldn’t fit everything in.
I love this city so much and have so many close friends that call it home which is all the more reason to go back! I already have my next trip booked! What are your recommendations for a New York City trip? If you know of a hidden gem I’d love for you to share it in the comments so I can check it out next time!
