On my last trip to New York City I made it a personal mission to find the best gluten free spots in the city for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mission accomplished! Realistically, every time I go to NYC I end up finding new gluten free places and they’re all amazing so I figured that it would be helpful if I compiled a list!
BREAKFAST
There are multiple locations around the city, but I had this next level avocado toast at the Upper East Side location. My friend had the GF banana bread also pictured which I tasted and it was delicious! There are so many options and Instagram worthy things to try here. They also can accommodate/substitute most things to be vegan and GF. In the warmer months I’d recommend sitting outside because there are views of Central Park, but the inside is well-decorated and inviting too!
This hidden gem is a hole in the wall spot on the Upper West Side that has GF plain or everything bagels (along with lots of gluten FULL bagels for those of you who are able to eat it) and all the different cream cheese flavors your heart desires.
Super friendly staff and plenty of spots to sit down to enjoy your GF bagel! They have a few flavors of gluten free bagels that you can make into a sandwich or add one of their many cream cheese flavors too. They also had an assortment of gluten free cookies, lots of juices, and other goodies. This is cash only.
This cute little coffee shop offers an assortment of gluten free muffins in addition to a multitude of gluten full pastries. I got the GF banana chocolate chip muffin with a latte!
LUNCH/DINNER
I am not exaggerating one bit when I say that I think this was the best dinner (dinners plural actually because I went twice in one weekend) I’ve ever had. They have gluten free options if you ask, but they make gluten free gnocchi in house that is out of this world! We sat in the wine cellar downstairs which was such a cool experience. Also, for my readers who can eat gluten the menu was extensive and everything looked/smelled delicious! They have a beautiful patio for the summer and a brick candlelit cellar with tables downstairs that is incredibly romantic!
EDIT: As of September 2017, when I was there last, they no longer have the GF gnocchi. They have many GF options still and I would still recommend eating there!
I went in specifically for the gluten free mozzarella sticks and ended up also getting a delicious arugula salad. They have a dedicated gluten free menu if you ask (also visible online), but let’s be real you’re going for those mozzarella sticks!
You could realistically go here for any meal during the day, but I went for brunch. When I told my friends who live in the city that my other friend had made us reservations here they all raved about how amazing it is, especially the queso (which I can attest to). You can check out their gluten free menus online!
I’ve mentioned this in a previous post and how amazingly good it is! Not to mention how adorable the decor is in this restaurant. I got “The Farmstand” – came with GF bread. This is a must!
This is another spot where you can’t go wrong going in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I recommend making a reservation if possible because this place gets packed! Also, it’s noteworthy that they don’t have a GF menu, but can make accommodations. I was able to eat a breakfast and a lunch here with no issue. YUM!
Not all of their locations are the same, but the one on the Upper West Side definitely has gluten free pasta which I have personally enjoyed before! Fun fact: Serafina is my namesake which meant I had to check it out.
DESSERT
Home to all of the things you normally miss out on when you have to eat gluten free. This place is heaven! They have gluten free croissants, tarts, eclairs, muffins, breads, quiches, and SO much more! If you want to take it in a to go box they’ll wrap it up for you or you can eat it in their cafe area upstairs. RUN DON’T WALK!
I also heard really good things about this place, but I haven’t been yet! One last addition, there is a grocery store, called gfree nyc, on the upper west side that carries all of the gluten free things you need!
I hope this post helps you to find all the best GF food while you’re in NYC next! If you have any recommendations that I didn’t mention in this post please share them in the comments below. I’d love to try some new places and you might help out another reader!
