We’ve been in our house for almost a year now and over the past 11 months we have had so many of our friends and family come stay with us (possibly my favorite part of being a home owner is hosting!). We are lucky enough to be able to provide our house guests with their own bedroom and bathroom while they stay with us. I always try to make sure that there are little touches included at every stop to make them all feel at home. I try to have cosmetic and bath products stocked, plenty of things to read, and fluffy towels at the ready! So in today’s post I am sharing everything that goes into preparing for my house guests and making them feel comfortable! Scroll to the end to read the full post!
Prior to guests staying with us I always strip the bed and wash all of the linens (my secret trick is , I throw a splash in with the bedding to make it smell delicious) so that they are clean and smell super fresh! I always make sure there are fresh towels stocked in the bathroom as well (bath, hand, and facecloths). I have white towels so I will usually make sure there is makeup remover in the medicine cabinet or I give my guests dark facecloths to avoid makeup winding up on those white towels! Next, I will make sure that I’ve made a run to the store to grab fresh flowers for the room, (especially during cold & flu season), a nice bar of soap, etc. I try to keep these types of things on hand along with extra tooth brushes, advil, and full size bath products in the shower. I keep most of these things in the medicine cabinet in the guest bath along with cotton swabs and flossers. I try to think of the little conveniences that I forget when traveling and try to have those things for my guests! I also try to make sure that they have plenty of pillows, extra blankets, a candle, and a mirror! I have a little nook in the corner with a floor mirror, garden stool, and chair that can be used to put bags on or as a spot to get ready. I also leave a few hangers on the back of the door on the hooks so they can hang up any nice clothes they brought. This year I’d like to get robes to leave on the door for guests to give that that next level hotel experience (I’m serious…)!
Here is a checklist you can screenshot or save for the next time you have guests to make sure you’re prepared:
- Wash bedding and towels
- Stock medicine cabinet, soap, makeup remover, tissues ( makes seasonal boxes like these winter ones), and bath products
- Buy fresh flowers
- Grab some magazines or put some books out (I put some in the nightstand)
- Put hangers, towels, blankets, and extra pillows out
- Make sure there is a candle and matches accessible
- Set an extra chair or end table up, where space allows, for a little extra spot to put their things
These are the things I do to make sure my guests feel welcome and comfortable in our home and I hope this helps you the next time you host! If I forget anything let me know in the comments, I am always open to new touches that I could be adding in!
Thank you so much for reading!
