You may have been wondering what we have planned for our wedding, if so, you are not alone! I get DM’s from readers and asked by friends all the time. I haven’t really posted any of our plans yet, but I figured now is as good of a time as any to spill the beans! We are getting married this September in Charleston, South Carolina!
So here is the back story, MDW 2017 Zachary and I took a trip with friends to Charleston for the first time and we loved it! At that point we had been engaged for about a year (we’ve been dating since 2011 though) and our families were getting super antsy about us setting a date. So we decided then that we would like to get married in Charleston. I am from Massachusetts and he is from Florida so we figured that South Carolina would be a great mid way point for everyone traveling to our north meets south wedding. It’s a beautiful city with lots to do and most of our family will be visiting for the first time the weekend of our wedding!
Once we decided on the location we went back to Charleston in February 2018 with our friends (one of whom is our wedding photographer, Rachel, she took the photos above on this trip!) to check out the church and some venues. I had already narrowed the venues down to three choices by the time we got there and when we saw them it was very clear which one was the venue for us! So we never even saw the third venue. It was such a no brainer so we booked it that day!
I never thought that I’d be planning a destination wedding seeing as I am not the wedding fanatic that most girls are (I am super excited about marriage, the wedding frills just don’t excite me), but here we are! I had no idea of all the extra challenges that come with a destination wedding versus getting married in the city you live in. But I cannot wait for September to spend a weekend in one of our favorite city’s with all of our closest friends and family! I am hoping to make it a weekend long experience for everyone that’s in town to celebrate with us!
So far I’ve picked out flowers, venue, church, groomsmen attire, bridesmaid dresses, wedding gown, shoes, decor, planner, invitation suite, DJ, menus, and that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. It’s been a lot, but I’m excited to see it all come together in September!
As for my dress, I had gone to a local boutique in Tampa as soon as we got engaged and bought a dress from the Paloma Sierra x Mikaella Bridal Collection. Then about three months ago I saw this dress on Instagram and it stopped me dead in my tracks. I was like oh damn, THAT is my dress! So I called the designer and hunted down the ONE dress in the state of Massachusetts (there were none in Florida) and when I flew up in May for my brother’s graduation I tried it on and bought it that day from L’Elite Bridal on Newbury Street! I am OBSESSED with my new dress and can’t wait to take ALL the pictures in it!
