Welcome back to SMDC, I am so glad you’re here! Today I am sharing a step by step tutorial on how I style my hair on a daily basis. Let’s get started!
STEP ONE. I start with freshly washed hair for optimum results. I find that my hair has a lot more volume the first two days after I wash and style it. I put on a leave in conditioner or serum when I get out of the shower, wrap my hair up in a towel to let the product do it’s work and while I wait I have time to do my makeup or pick out my outfit for the day.
STEP TWO.
I use a wide tooth comb to brush through my hair. I use the comb while my hair is wet to minimize breakage when brushing. I also put some Moroccan Oil in my hair at this point.
STEP THREE.
Next I blow dry my damp hair until it is completely dry to the roots. I use my hands and this paddle brush for this part, and I’ll add that when I am blowdrying around my roots I always point the blowdryer down to help flatten my fly aways. Once my hair is completely dry I will go over it with cold air to give it a little extra shine.
STEP FOUR.
I separate my hair into two large sections and fasten the top half with a clip to keep it out of the way. Next I separate the bottom section into two large sections (one on each shoulder as seen below).
STEP FIVE.
Now I take one section at a time and curl it using the clip as pictured on the left. I will leave it in for a few seconds then let the curl fall and twirl it while it is still hot (see right photo).
Then I let down some hair from the top section so that all that is left in the clip is the hair around my part. I roughly section it off in the shape of a rectangle starting with the hair around my forehead and down to the hair at the other end of my part that I would normally tease. Now, I tend to the hair that I just let down, and curl it in generous sized sections.
STEP SIX.
Once everything is curled except for the rectangular section that is clipped on top of my head, I take the clip out. Starting with the back of this section I take a section of hair and curl it towards the back to give it a lot of volume without teasing it.
I curl it all the way down to my roots (be careful it’s hot!). I hold that for a few seconds and then release that curl. I repeat this step all the way to the front of my part where it meets my forehead. All of these sections along my scalp I curl towards the back of my head EXCEPT the section right at my forehead. I curl it using the same technique as the rest of this step, but this time I curl it the opposite direction (so, forward this time).
You will end up with a result looking something very Shirley Temple-esque like this…
Don’t worry this is not the end!
STEP SEVEN.
I take some of this anti-frizz serum (the tiniest dot) and I run my fingers through those curls now that they are completely cool.
You should be left with something like this! I just realized how desperately I need to get my split ends trimmed…
I hope that you found this post helpful. If you give this tutorial a try I’d love to see your results so be sure to tag me (@thesaramagnolia).
