On our recent trip to Charleston, SC we stayed in the historic district which meant we were in walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants which was so convenient! It was also late May which meant the temps were high and it got a tad humid too. With all that walking around in the heat I had to really plan out my outfits to make sure that they would be comfortable to walk around in all day and breathable!

In my personal experience I’ve found that dresses and skirts are comfortable in the summer when there is minimal walking to be done. In my honest opinion I firmly believe that a romper is the most uncomfortable thing to walk around in all day during the summer so that was out. Which brings me to the outfit I’m wearing above which consists of a pair of semi high waisted tailored shorts that weren’t constricting at all and the fabric is softer than denim (they run small – I went up TWO sizes). This sleeveless button up blouse is very light weight fabric and heavenly to wear in the heat/humidity of summer in the south. It’s a little long on me which I don’t mind at all because it’s the perfect length to knot it at the bottom which I did one night with white jeans and wedges.

Now, let’s talk about the best beauty product ever that my friend showed me on this trip….. Matte lipsticks, people!! I usually stick to my three drug store lipsticks that I rotate through and they’re nothing special. Well my friend let me try her matte lipsticks one being this ColourPop shade I’m wearing in this post and the others were two of Kylie’s lip kits. They changed my life! The lip kits lasted all day and I loved how they felt on! I already ordered some of my own because I can’t ever live without them again (half kidding)!

So when you’re thinking about what to wear on a trip that will involve a lot of walking in the heat remember that sensible shoes are your friend (heels = blisters in this scenario), breathable fabrics that won’t cling or chafe are what you need to look for, and be aware of what you are most comfortable in. I might not be comfortable walking around all day in a romper (learned my lesson…never again), but that might be what you’re most comfortable in! I also found carrying a cute designer backpack was way more convenient to lug my camera, wallet, water, etc around in! SO many revelations on this trip from the lip kits to the backpacks I just had to share!
